Open the floodgates: Texas LNG LLC project gets Depart of Energy approval to export gas to Free Trade Agreement countries

The U.S. Department of Energy has given the go ahead to Texas LNG, a newly formed Houston-based venture headed by CEO Vivek Chandra, to start exporting to Free Trade Agreement countries.Texas LNG can now export up to two million tones per year of liquified natural gas to any current and future FTA countries for the next 25 years, the company said in a press release. Chandra said in Jan. 2014 that the company would export to countries in the Asia-Pacific region.The venture is building a $1 billion terminal at the Port of Brownsville in South Texas on the U.S.-Mexico border.
