Port of Brownsville could factor into Mexico’s energy revolution

Mexico’s energy reform, which could see more oil and natural gas ventures throughout the country and its portion of the Gulf of Mexico, is poised to usher in a new era of prosperity for the country. The potential toppling of a near monopoly on Mexican energy could allow smaller ventures — either in conjunction with or separate from state-owned Pemex — to begin extracting natural gas and oil as well. That increase in energy exports — combined with other energy projects along Texas’ Eagle Ford Shale — could position the Rio Grande Valley for a windfall of investment; a prospect lawmakers in Washington are hoping will come to fruition as Mexico nudges its way into the international energy scene.
